An agreement signed between developer/total contractor Steiner AG and service provider Tertianum to build and operate a centre with senior citizens' apartments and care rooms marks a further milestone in the Glasi urban development project in the north of Bülach.
Occupying the site of Bülach's former glassworks, this scheme will see the creation of a new urban district with some 560 apartments, shops and light-industrial units over the next few years. With Tertianum, property developer and total (design-and-build) contractor Steiner AG has now managed to attract its first major tenant. Tertianum will operate a residential and care centre with 62 senior citizens' apartments and 40 rooms for residents requiring nursing care. These facilities will be complemented by a ground-floor restaurant, open to the general public and overlooking one of the four plazas.
Independent housing for the elderly
The planned accommodation will cater for elderly people who, though independent, wish to benefit from services such as freshly prepared daily meals, regular household cleaning, care assistance and a 24-hour emergency call system. If, at any time, residents find themselves in need of greater care, they will have the option of moving to the care facility without giving up their familiar environment. The care facility will provide professional round-the-clock nursing and supervision.
The centre's residents will also have access to a wide range of shops and everyday services – such as the planned medical centre – that will be on offer in the new quarter. The Glasi district is ideally located, especially for elderly people, with Bülach railway station only a five-minute walk from the site. A new bus stop offering a link to Bülach town centre will be installed directly in front of the building. Woodland areas and the River Glatt are also within easy reach.
A vibrant neighbourhood brimming with variety
The various offerings for elderly people testify to the planning team's ambition of creating a lively district with a broad use mix. At the same time, with the new residential and care centre, the two partners Steiner AG and Tertianum are providing a welcome addition to Bülach's existing amenities.
