Werkarena Basel gets the go-ahead

Today Steiner AG received the official go-ahead for the Werkarena business park in Basel. It thus has the green light to realise the construction of a pioneering business complex. Werkarena Basel will create some 20,000 m² of modern workspace and production areas, providing a secure long-term base from which start-ups and SMEs can drive forward their businesses. 
 
The business park that Steiner AG is developing close to Basel's city centre features excellent access, top-quality architecture and flexible usage concepts. Werkarena is located in an up-and-coming district in the north of Basel and is close to the French border. Not only is it very easily accessible from the centre of Basel, but it is located close to EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse and has a direct link to the A3 motorway. Werkarena is a broad-based initiative supported by the city’s trade association (Gewerbeverband) and municipal real estate department (Immobilien Basel-Stadt), Business Parc Reinach, Steiner AG, smeyers AG and Picard Angst AG as well as other major companies. 
 
Stefan Gabriel, Team Leader of Real Estate Development at Steiner AG, is delighted to be going ahead with the project: “Today’s decision means that, after a lot of hard work, we have passed another major milestone: next week we can already start building this future-oriented business park.” The first occupants are due to move in by the autumn of 2021. 
 
Warehousing, offices and production all on one site
Promising business models also call for exceptional spatial concepts: SMEs located far away from city centres have to fight for customers and staff if they are to retain their visibility and appeal in the long term. Werkarena will help companies to meet this challenge – and will do so in a striking way: it makes use of an ingenious system of ramps to provide light commercial vehicles with access to commercial space, and offers shared use of office areas, meeting and conference rooms. 
 
The top four floors of the Werkarena will accommodate a marketplace, forum and novel types of business model. Start-ups and SMEs that wish to expand their networks or are seeking a place for inspiration and dialogue will find the airy, open spaces particularly conducive. The commercial and business park operated by Gewerbeverband Basel-Stadt and Businessparc Reinach will occupy part of the complex. The project offering is geared to promoting light industrial/commercial start-ups. 
 
Flexible and ingenious building concepts
Werkarena is not the first challenge of its kind that Steiner has tackled. The developer has already made a name for itself in the field of business parks and commercial complexes with projects such as Manufakt8048 in Zurich and ZoWo in Bern. For Steiner, combining sustainable site development with sensible land-use and a high quality of life has always been a priority.
