Steiner AG files objection with Canton of Bern Administrative Court

“The Myrrhen” developer consortium lodges appeal against the cantonal Department of Construction, Transport and Energy (BVE) over refusal of planning permission

“The Myrrhen” developer consortium, consisting of Schilthornbahn AG (landowner of plot no. 6023), Steiner AG (total contractor) and MHBD Swiss Resorts Development & Management (operator), has lodged an Administrative Court appeal against the decision of the Department of Construction, Transport and Energy (BVE) of the Canton of Bern. The BVE had previously upheld an objection to the construction of a new apartment hotel – “The Myrrhen” – in the village of Mürren.
“The Myrrhen” developer consortium is adhering to its intention to implement a project involving the construction of “qualified” (i.e. rentable at market rates) serviced tourist apartments in Mürren. In its decision to refuse planning permission, issued on January 9, 2017, the BVE cited the municipal planning regulations and the project’s impact on the appearance of the village and its surroundings. With its decision, the BVE overturned the planning permission granted in the first instance by the district council of Interlaken-Oberhasli. The developer consortium regrets this ruling and, after careful consideration, has decided to appeal against the BVE's decision by filing an objection with the Canton of Bern Administrative Court.
Future-proof project for Mürren
Development work on this project began already in 2010. The project competition was launched in 2013 following the granting of cantonal approval under ZPP (restricted planning zone) no. 44 “Apartmenthotel Mürren”. The architecture of the winning project, designed by Brügger Architekten AG of Thun, blends harmoniously into the village setting. The project comprises some 70 “qualified” serviced tourist apartments distributed across four characteristic chalets.
Properly thought-out operating model
Tourism is the principal source of employment in the municipality of Lauterbrunnen. “The Myrrhen” is based on a tried-and-tested resort operating concept offering high quality standards. The apartments will enjoy hotel-standard services. “The Myrrhen” will help to enhance new and existing facilities and improve utilization of the infrastructure in Mürren by attracting additional guests to the village.
