Foundation stone laid for Vulcano project in Zurich-Altstetten

The foundation-stone-laying ceremony for the Vulcano project took place today in Zurich-Altstetten. Jointly developed by Steiner AG and the investment group CSA Real Estate Switzerland, the dynamic scheme at Vulkanstrasse 110 comprises a residential and service complex with a gross floor area of 58 000 m2. The project is scheduled for completion in 2018

CSA Real Estate Switzerland (CSA RES, sec. no. 1 312 300), an investment group of the Credit Suisse Investment Foundation, and project developer/total contractor Steiner AG are implementing a dynamic residential and service-sector scheme with a gross floor area of 58 000 m2 in Zurich-Altstetten. Three 80-metre-tall towers containing some 300 serviced rental apartments are linked by a podium that houses retail and catering units plus Switzerland's first "a-ja City Resort" with 320 hotel rooms.

With building works already in progress, the ground slab and much of the basement level have already been concreted. Currently under construction are the first-upper-storey walls. Around 100 guests from business and politics were joined by media representatives and project partners at today's ceremony to witness the laying of a symbolic foundation stone for the Vulcano project. Andreas Roth, Head of the Swiss Real Estate investment groups at Real Estate Investment Management, Credit Suisse AG, is convinced that the finished development will meet the stringent demands of the various users and that the concept's intelligent use mix will attract high demand from tenants.

With his strict formalism, Paris-based architect Dominique Perrault from Dominique Perrault Architecture SA always pays close attention to the urban planning dimension of his designs: «Not only does the immediate proximity to Altstetten station guarantee excellent public transport links, it also offers high visibility at a prime residential and business location. The disposition and detailing of the towers and podium are such as to create a strong presence and energize the urban space in its main direction of flow while at the same time establishing a spatial dialogue across the Limmattal valley.»

Daniel Ducrey, CEO Steiner AG, is extremely satisfied with the resulting concept: «Throughout the development phase, Steiner AG ensured that the scheme delivered a convincing response to its urban context. Now, during the construction period, we must collaborate closely with all our partners in addressing the needs of the various end users.»
