SkyKey, Zurich

First Swiss high-rise to achieve LEED Platinum certification.

The SkyKey office tower, developed and built by Steiner, was the first high-rise in Switzerland to earn Platinum status under the international LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) scheme. The sustainability certification system was initiated by the US Green Building Council and defines highly stringent criteria for eco-friendly, resource-efficient construction. The SkyKey scheme in Zurich now ranks among the three most sustainable high-rise buildings in Europe and the top 30 worldwide.

The approx. 40,000 m2 of office space is equipped with state-of-the-art LED lighting systems that adapt to daylighting levels and presence. Moreover, the incorporation of water-saving fittings and a 100,000 ltr rainwater tank for toilet flushing has cut drinking water demand by up to 40%. Through the use of absorber technology, district heat is transformed to provide cooling capacity for the hybrid chilled ceilings installed in the rooms. All workplaces and office zones are designed to allow flexible reconfiguration with a minimum of building work to meet changing requirements.
